Junior Ecologist
UK - South west | £20k - £25k
A renewable energy company involved in planning and designing wind farms in the UK, is seeking to recruit a junior ecologist to join their in-house environmental team in the south west of England. This is a unique chance to work client side and learn from other environmental professionals involved in disciplines such as landscape architecture, hydrology and EIA.
You will work alongside a Senior/Principal Ecologist to undertake the following tasks:
- Field work
- Protected species surveys
- Writing ecology chapters for planning permissions
To qualify for this position you will have graduated from a relevant environmental science degree and will want to continue your professional training in ecology. You will need to have started post graduate UK employment in ecology either through environmental consultancy or practical field studies in a related role.

It is a great time to join a successful environmental consultancy who is recruiting principal ecologists to join teams around the UK - especially in Nottingham and the East Midlands. The main focus of the role will be to grow, lead and support the business delivering a high quality of service to clients and bolstering the team’s technical expertise.
In joining at a principal level you will have a demonstrated ecological consultancy background along with the following key skills:
- Running projects
- Managing people
- Strong client and stakeholder relationship building
- Phase I and Phase II survey experience, EcIA and EIA experience is essential
- High standards in reporting
- Protected species licence(s)
- Awareness of ecosystem services
- A skilled communicator

ApplySenior Ornithologist
UK - Cambridgeshire | £28k - £32k
A well respected environmental consultancy specialising in environmental planning and development is looking for an Ornithologist to join their group in East Anglia.
Responsible for planning and undertaking international ornithological surveys, you will be joining a select group of specialists and will be responsible for the development and management of the team.
Your responsibilities include:
- Preparing EIA reports on site surveys and the impacts of work on bird populations
- Conducting research into bird ecology and surveying methodology
- Preparing tenders and quotes for project work
- Negotiating programmes of work and advising on the implications of ornithological surveys
You will have a Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject and will be a full member of IEEM. As an experienced Ornithologist you have a proven record in the identification of bird species and conducting and managing surveys.
You will also have:
- Technical knowledge and an understanding of waterfowl ecology and assessing impacts on birds and their habitats
- A strong understanding of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs)
- A working knowledge of environmental policy and legislation, particularly PPS9
- Experience in supervising staff on ornithology projects

Within the role you will be working on projects across the transport, energy, leisure and residential sectors, where you will be developing your own portfolio of projects whilst managing a small team of junior ecologists.
